Mary Engle
Prior to my work as a Christian counselor, I worked in the public school system as a school counselor for 17 years, and a classroom teacher for 11 years. Most of my experience in working with children, adolescents and adults has been in dealing with ADHD, Aspbergers, abuse, grief, trauma, stress issues related to both home and school, family issues, parenting issues, depression, anxiety and the inability to make and keep close friendships and other life struggles.
I believe it is important that you know the philosophy I take in addressing life issues. I have found in my own personal recovery that my relationship with the Lord is of utmost importance.
In stating that, I want to emphasize that it is important to me to be sensitive to my clients on where they are spiritually and to meet them at their own place in their recovery process. I look at my clients from the perspective of four sides: the spiritual, mental, physical and emotional side. I have found when any one of those sides is out of balance, it makes it difficult to be resilient when life is challenging. I look forward to working with you in the healing journey!

Clinical Areas of Focus

In creating my own sense of balance, I have many hobbies and interests that intertwine with my interactions with clients. Two of my hobbies that influence how I see life are quilting and mixed media.
A quilt’s true beauty shines when all the pieces of fabric are sewn together. Like a quilt, when all the pieces of our experiences are put together the mystery of the good and the bad creates a pallet of beauty. Mixed media allows me to be a pretend artist! I can take something ordinary and turn it into art with a little bit of paint and a splash of glitter…life is better!
I also have a tremendous passion for animals. In my own personal recovery, I have learned an aspect of love through the love of God’s creatures, especially my dogs. I have a dachshund named Mercy and two rescue dogs named Liberty and Dibs. All 3 with unique personalities and a story. I enjoy using their stories to help my young clients better understand the consequences of their actions.

Some other hobbies that I have are traveling, reading, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and riding my bike.
